Balancing a checkbook, filing individual taxes, examining costs and advantages of student loans or calculating retirement needs in many cases are ignored in the collegiate level, but the majority of university students — and even graduates — lack these simple yet critical skills.

The Department of Human developing and Family Studies, the main College of Health Sciences at the University of Rhode Island, is students that are helping a handle on the monetary futures, providing courses in personal finance to instruct them the fundamentals of managing their funds.
